Inspired by Halle Berry’s “Fitness Friday” Instagram posts, fitness author Greg Presto decided to try out one of the more physically challenging workout routines that trainer Peter Lee Thomas developed for the actress in a new YouTube video. “It is no joke,” he says.

The first move is the Hindu squat, performed for 30 reps. “Hindu squats have been done for centuries,” says Presto. “This heels-up squat variation lets you go nice and deep.” While traditionally this squat variation involves extending and swinging the arms, Presto films himself doing a hands-down version due to a balance issue.

The second exercise is the dumbbell weighted squat jump, again performed for 30 reps. “I have been doing a lot of squats in my recent training, so I felt pretty confident about getting through Halle’s squat-heavy work,” he says.

Next up are 12 reps of the archer squat. “I knew these were going to give my hamstrings a real stretch,” he says. “These were tough… I am not a very bendy person.”

The fourth move is the high-knee run and punch, performed with dumbbells for 4o punches (2o on each side). Presto reduces the weight on this round in order to minimize strain on his shoulders. “I had done the squat jumps holding 25-pound dumbbells, for these I used just 7.5 pounds in each hand,” he says.

Exercise number five is the straight leg toe touch, done for 15 reps, and Presto struggles to complete these with proper form: his knees are slightly bent throughout.

Next are 30 Hindu pushups. “In this exercise, your head and hips swoop through as you push up,” he says. “I’ve been doing these for years, but I never feel like I’m doing them right.”

Finally, Presto ends on 30 reps of straight leg situps, completing the workout in 12 minutes 11 seconds. “Those Hindu pushups and archer squats were really the hardest part for me,” he says.
